A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 13, Test 2, Writing. Writing has no single correct answer, so this page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 13, Test 2, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন। এখানে টাস্ক বিশ্লেষণ, কাঠামো, দরকারি ভাষা ও টিপস — আমাদের নিজের ভাষায়।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: Owned vs Rented Households — England & Wales, 1918–2011
What the task shows: a bar chart of the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales at nine points between 1918 and 2011. You must summarise the main features and make comparisons over time. টাস্কে যা আছে: ১৯১৮–২০১১ সময়ে ইংল্যান্ড ও ওয়েলসে নিজস্ব বনাম ভাড়া বাড়ির শতকরা হারের বার চার্ট। সময়ের সাথে তুলনা করুন।
Key figures (মূল সংখ্যা)
- 1918: renting dominated — about 77% rented vs 23% owned. ১৯১৮: ভাড়া বেশি (~৭৭%)।
- The trend reversed: owning rose steadily and renting fell; the two crossed over around 1971. ১৯৭১-এর দিকে ক্রসওভার।
- Peak ownership: owning peaked around 2001 (~69%) then dipped slightly to ~65% by 2011. ২০০১-এ শীর্ষ, পরে সামান্য কমে।
Overview to aim for: over the century the pattern completely reversed — from a large majority renting in 1918 to a large majority owning by 2011, with the crossover in the early 1970s. Put this big picture in the overview. ওভারভিউ: শতাব্দীজুড়ে ধরন সম্পূর্ণ উল্টে গেছে — ভাড়া থেকে নিজস্ব।
Chart tips: the two bars are mirror images (they add to ~100%), so describe the trends together. Use approximations (roughly, just under, around) and time markers. Don't list every year — group them. দুই বার একে অপরের বিপরীত; আনুমানিক মান ও সময়চিহ্ন ব্যবহার করুন।
Task 2: Do We Have Too Many Choices Nowadays? (Agree/Disagree)
The prompt (in short): some people believe that nowadays we have too many choices. To what extent do you agree or disagree? This is an opinion (agree/disagree) essay — take a clear position and support it. প্রশ্ন: কেউ মনে করেন আজকাল আমাদের অনেক বেশি বিকল্প আছে। কতটা একমত? স্পষ্ট অবস্থান নিন।

Choice is beneficial
- Freedom to find what suits our needs and budget. নিজের মতো বাছাই।
- Competition improves quality and lowers prices. প্রতিযোগিতা।
- Reflects progress and personal freedom. স্বাধীনতা।
Too much can harm
- Decision fatigue and wasted time comparing options. সিদ্ধান্ত-ক্লান্তি।
- Anxiety and regret about the choice made. উদ্বেগ ও অনুশোচনা।
- Less satisfaction even with a good option. কম সন্তুষ্টি।
A balanced answer: choice is largely positive, but beyond a point excessive options cause stress and waste time — so the issue is managing choice, not having it. Make your degree of agreement explicit. ভারসাম্যপূর্ণ মত: বিকল্প ভালো, তবে অতিরিক্ত হলে চাপ ও সময় নষ্ট; মূল বিষয় বিকল্প সামলানো।
