How to Use This Companion (এই গাইড কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন)
A study companion for Cambridge IELTS 13, Test 4, Writing. Writing has no single correct answer, so this page gives task analysis, a structure and planning method, useful language and band tips — all in our own words. It does not reprint the book's tasks or sample essays.
Cambridge IELTS 13, Test 4, Writing-এর স্টাডি কম্প্যানিয়ন। এখানে টাস্ক বিশ্লেষণ, কাঠামো, দরকারি ভাষা ও টিপস — আমাদের নিজের ভাষায়।
Timing: ~20 min on Task 1 (150+ words), ~40 min on Task 2 (250+ words). Task 2 is worth twice as much.

Task 1: University Sports Centre — Present vs Future Plans
What the task shows: two plans (maps) of a university's sports centre — how it looks now and how it will look after redevelopment. You must summarise the main features and make comparisons between the two layouts. This is a map/plan-change task, so the language of location and change matters most. টাস্কে যা আছে: বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের স্পোর্টস সেন্টারের বর্তমান ও পুনর্গঠনের পরের দুটি নকশা। অবস্থান ও পরিবর্তনের ভাষা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।
Key changes (মূল পরিবর্তন)
- Kept the same: the 25m pool, the gym, the seating and the reception stay in their central positions. অপরিবর্তিত: পুল, জিম, বসার জায়গা, রিসেপশন।
- Removed: the two outdoor courts on both sides disappear. সরানো হয়েছে: বাইরের কোর্টগুলো।
- Added: a leisure pool, a sports hall, two dance studios, a café, a sports shop and an extra changing room. যোগ: লেজার পুল, স্পোর্টস হল, ডান্স স্টুডিও, ক্যাফে, দোকান, চেঞ্জিং রুম।
Overview to aim for: the centre becomes much larger and more varied — the outdoor courts are replaced by indoor facilities (a sports hall, dance studios) and new leisure/commercial areas (leisure pool, café, shop), while the core (pool, gym, reception) is retained. ওভারভিউ: কেন্দ্রটি বড় ও বৈচিত্র্যময় হয় — বাইরের কোর্টের বদলে অন্দর সুবিধা ও নতুন লেজার/বাণিজ্যিক এলাকা; মূল অংশ অপরিবর্তিত।
Plan tips: use the past/future correctly — the second plan is a proposal, so use will be built / is going to be added / will be replaced by. Describe direction (to the north, on the left, beside, opposite). Don't just list — group what stays, what goes and what is new. দ্বিতীয় নকশা প্রস্তাবিত — future/passive ব্যবহার করুন; দিক বর্ণনা করুন; গোষ্ঠীবদ্ধভাবে লিখুন।
Task 2: Why People Still Go Hungry (Causes & Solutions)
The prompt (in short): in spite of the advances made in agriculture, many people around the world still go hungry. Why is this the case? What can be done about this problem? A problem/solution (causes + solutions) essay. প্রশ্ন: কৃষিতে অগ্রগতি সত্ত্বেও বহু মানুষ এখনও ক্ষুধার্ত। কেন? কী করা যায়? — কারণ ও সমাধান রচনা।

Why hunger persists
- Poverty — people cannot afford food even when it exists. দারিদ্র্য।
- Unequal distribution & food waste in rich countries. অসম বণ্টন ও অপচয়।
- War, conflict and political instability. যুদ্ধ ও অস্থিরতা।
- Climate change, drought and natural disasters. জলবায়ু ও দুর্যোগ।
What can be done
- Fairer distribution and cutting food waste. ন্যায্য বণ্টন, অপচয় কমানো।
- Investment in local farmers and infrastructure. স্থানীয় কৃষকে বিনিয়োগ।
- International aid and fairer trade rules. আন্তর্জাতিক সাহায্য ও ন্যায্য বাণিজ্য।
- Education and support for sustainable farming. শিক্ষা ও টেকসই কৃষি।
The key insight to state clearly: the problem is not that we cannot grow enough food — the world produces plenty — but that food is distributed unequally and many people are too poor to buy it. Solutions should therefore target poverty and distribution, not just production. মূল কথা: যথেষ্ট খাদ্য উৎপাদিত হয়; সমস্যা বণ্টন ও দারিদ্র্যে। তাই সমাধান দারিদ্র্য ও বণ্টনকেন্দ্রিক হওয়া উচিত।
