The diagram illustrates how a hydroelectric power station uses the force of moving water to generate electricity.
Overall, the process is a continuous one in which water stored at a high level is allowed to fall through the dam, and its energy is converted first into movement and then into electrical power.
At the heart of the system is a large dam, which holds back a river to create a deep reservoir of water on one side. When electricity is needed, water from this reservoir is released through an opening called the intake and flows down a long, sloping pipe known as the penstock. Because the water falls from a great height, it gains considerable speed and force.
At the bottom of the penstock, this fast-moving water strikes the blades of a turbine, causing it to spin rapidly. The turbine is connected to a generator, and as the turbine turns, the generator converts this movement into electricity. Finally, the electricity produced is carried away along power lines, while the water itself flows out into the river below the dam.

The diagram shows how a hydroelectric power station makes electricity from water. Overall, water is stored behind a dam, and when it falls down, it turns a machine that makes electricity.
First, a large dam is built across a river. This dam holds back the water and makes a big lake called a reservoir on one side, where the water level is very high. When electricity is needed, the water is allowed to go out through an opening called the intake.
The water then flows down a big pipe called the penstock. Because the water falls from a high place, it moves very fast and with a lot of force. At the bottom, the fast water hits a turbine and makes it spin quickly.
The turbine is joined to a generator, and when the turbine spins, the generator makes electricity. This electricity is sent away through power lines, and the water goes out into the river below the dam.

The diagram show how the hydroelectric power station make electricity by water. Water is store behind a dam and when it fall it turn a machine and make electricity.
First a big dam is build on a river. The dam hold the water and make a big lake reservoir in one side and the water is very high. When we need electricity the water go out from the intake.
Then the water go down a big pipe penstock. Because the water fall from high place it move very fast and strong. At the bottom the water hit the turbine and it spin fast.
The turbine is connect with a generator and when the turbine spin the generator make electricity. The electricity go by the power line and the water go to the river.

Write about the following topic:
Some people believe that governments should spend money only on public services such as hospitals and schools, rather than on the arts, such as music and painting. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Plan for a “to what extent” essay: Introduction (paraphrase + state how far you agree — fully, partly, or disagree) → Body 1 → Body 2 (your reasons) → Conclusion. You can partly agree, but your position must be clear and consistent. কতটা একমত তা স্পষ্ট করো; আংশিক একমতও হতে পারো।

Band 9 289 words
Governments have limited budgets, and there is an ongoing debate about how public money should be shared out. Some people feel that essential services such as hospitals and schools should always take priority over funding for the arts. While I accept that basic services must come first, I disagree with the view that the arts should therefore be neglected.
There is, of course, a strong argument for prioritising public services. Health and education are fundamental to people’s survival and prosperity: without well-funded hospitals, citizens may suffer or die from treatable conditions, and without good schools, children are denied the opportunities that education provides. Since these services affect everyone, it is reasonable that they should receive the largest share of public spending.
Nevertheless, I firmly believe that the arts also deserve government support. Firstly, the arts enrich people’s lives and contribute to their wellbeing; a society with music, theatre and galleries is a happier and more interesting place to live. Secondly, the arts bring practical benefits that are often overlooked. Museums, concerts and festivals attract large numbers of tourists, creating jobs and generating income that can, in turn, help to fund the very hospitals and schools that people value. Cities such as Vienna owe much of their prosperity to their artistic heritage.
In conclusion, although I agree that hospitals and schools must be funded first, I do not accept that the arts should be ignored. In my view, a wise government supports both, recognising that culture and essential services together make a nation not only functional but also worth living in.
Band 7 256 words
Governments do not have unlimited money, so they must decide how to spend it. Some people think the government should spend money on public services like hospitals and schools instead of on the arts, like music and painting. In my opinion, public services are more important, but I do not agree that the arts should get no money.
On one side, it is true that hospitals and schools are very important. Health and education are necessary for everybody. If hospitals do not have enough money, people cannot get good treatment when they are sick. If schools are not good, children cannot learn well and get good jobs in the future. Because these services help all the people, they should get the most money.
However, I think the arts are also important and should get some money. Firstly, the arts make people’s lives better and happier. A city with music, theatre and art galleries is a nicer place to live. Secondly, the arts can bring money to the country. For example, museums and festivals bring many tourists, and these tourists spend money and create jobs. This money can also be used for hospitals and schools.
In conclusion, I agree that hospitals and schools should get money first because they are the most important. But I do not think the arts should be ignored, because they make life better and also bring money. A good government should support both of them.
Band 5–6 226 words
The government do not have unlimited money so they have to decide how to spend it. Some people think the government should spend on public service like hospital and school instead of the arts like music and painting. In my opinion the public service is more important but i don’t agree the arts should get no money.
In one side it is true that hospital and school is very important. The health and education is necessary for everybody. If the hospital don’t have enough money people can not get good treatment when they sick. If the school is not good children can not learn and get good job. So this service should get most money.
But i think the arts is also important and should get some money. First the arts make the life better and happy. A city with music and art gallery is a nice place to live. Second the arts can bring money in the country. For example museum and festival bring many tourist and they spend money and make job. This money also can use for hospital and school.
In conclusion i agree hospital and school should get money first because they are most important. But i don’t think the arts should ignore because it make life better and bring money. Good government should support both.
