Personal Introduction Not Scored

Read the prompt, then record your introduction.

"Please introduce yourself. In your introduction you may wish to include information about your interests, your plans for study, and why you are taking this test."

1 · Read Aloud

Prepare, then read the text aloud clearly and naturally.

"Coral reefs, though they cover less than one percent of the ocean floor, support around a quarter of all known marine species. Rising sea temperatures and ocean acidification now threaten these fragile ecosystems, prompting marine biologists worldwide to develop new methods of coral restoration, including nurseries where resilient coral fragments are grown before being transplanted onto damaged reefs."

Trap: the scoring engine checks every word — skipping or mispronouncing one costs both Reading and Speaking marks.

2 · Repeat Sentence

Listen once, then immediately repeat the sentence exactly.

Show the sentence (after you try)

"The library will be closed for renovations throughout the month of August."

3 · Describe Image

Prepare, then describe the chart in your own words.

Trap: don't just list numbers — open with the overall trend ("ownership declines steadily with age"), then give 2-3 supporting details.

4 · Retell Lecture

Listen to the lecture (taking notes if you like), then retell its key points.

"Today I want to talk about one of the most important accidental discoveries in medical history: penicillin. In 1928, the Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming returned from a holiday to find that mould had contaminated one of his laboratory dishes containing bacteria. Instead of discarding it immediately, Fleming noticed something remarkable: the bacteria near the mould had been destroyed. He identified the mould as a type of Penicillium, and correctly guessed that it was producing a substance capable of killing bacteria. However, Fleming struggled to isolate enough of this substance in a usable form, and for over a decade the discovery remained largely a laboratory curiosity. It was not until the early 1940s, during the Second World War, that a team of scientists at Oxford University, led by Howard Florey and Ernst Chain, developed methods to produce penicillin in large enough quantities to treat patients. The timing proved critical: penicillin saved the lives of thousands of wounded soldiers who would otherwise have died from infected wounds. By the end of the war, mass production techniques had been developed, and penicillin became widely available to the public, marking the beginning of the antibiotic era in modern medicine."

5 · Answer Short Question

Listen to the question, then answer with a single word or short phrase.

Show expected answer (after you try)

"A dentist." — one word is enough; a full sentence is not required.

6 · Summarize Group Discussion

Listen to the discussion, then give a spoken summary covering both viewpoints.

Speaker A: "I think internships should be compulsory because they give students real workplace experience that a classroom simply cannot provide, and employers consistently say they prefer graduates who already have some practical exposure."

Speaker B: "I see the value, but making it compulsory could disadvantage students who cannot afford to work unpaid for months, or who are already juggling part-time jobs to support themselves financially."

Speaker A: "That is a fair concern, though universities could partner with companies to guarantee at least a small stipend, which would make it more accessible for everyone."

Speaker B: "Perhaps, but there is also the question of availability. Not every field has enough internship placements for every student, especially in smaller cities."

Moderator: "So we have two strong positions here — one favouring compulsory, paid internships arranged through university partnerships, and one raising concerns about affordability and placement availability."

Trap: mention at least two different viewpoints — not just one speaker's opinion.

7 · Respond to a Situation

Prepare, then speak an appropriate response to the situation.

"You are running late for an important meeting with your academic advisor. Leave a voicemail message explaining the situation and asking to reschedule."
0:20

Trap: match your tone to the situation — a request to an advisor needs polite, professional language.

8 · Summarize Written Text

Read the passage, then write a one-sentence summary (5-75 words) in 10 minutes.

"Vertical farming, in which crops are grown in stacked layers inside climate-controlled buildings rather than in open fields, has expanded rapidly in urban areas over the past decade. By using LED lighting and hydroponic or aeroponic systems instead of soil, vertical farms can produce vegetables year-round regardless of outside weather conditions, while using a fraction of the water required by conventional agriculture. Because the farms are typically located close to the cities they supply, transport costs and the carbon emissions associated with shipping produce over long distances are also significantly reduced. However, the high upfront cost of construction and the substantial electricity required to power the lighting systems mean that vertical farms currently remain most cost-effective for high-value crops such as leafy greens and herbs, rather than staple crops like wheat or rice."

9 · Write Essay

Write a 200-300 word argumentative essay in 20 minutes.

"Some people believe that university education should be free for all students, while others think students should pay tuition fees. Discuss both views and give your own opinion."
0 words (target: 200-300)
📖 Compare with 3 sample responses (strong / mid / weak)
Strong

"The question of whether university education should be free is widely debated. On one hand, proponents argue that free tuition removes financial barriers, allowing talented students from low-income backgrounds equal access to higher education regardless of their family's wealth. Countries such as Germany and Norway, which offer largely free public university education, are often cited as evidence that this model can produce highly skilled workforces without saddling graduates with crippling debt. On the other hand, critics contend that charging tuition fees ensures universities have the resources needed to maintain research quality and modern facilities, and that fees encourage students to choose their courses of study more carefully, since they have a direct financial stake in completing their degree efficiently. In my view, a moderate middle path is preferable: governments should heavily subsidise tuition for low-income students while allowing modest fees for those who can afford them, thereby balancing accessibility with sustainable university funding. This approach would preserve the core benefits of both systems while minimising their respective drawbacks."

Mid

"Some people think university should be free. Others think students should pay fees. Both ideas have good points. Free education helps poor students go to university. They do not need to worry about money. But if education is free, the government must pay a lot of money. This money could be used for other things. Universities also need money for good teachers and buildings. If students pay fees, universities can be better. In my opinion, I think education should be a mix. Poor students should get help but other students can pay some fees. This is more fair for everyone in society today."

মধ্যম: মূল ধারণা ঠিক আছে কিন্তু বাক্য সরল, উদাহরণ নেই, শব্দভান্ডার সীমিত।

Weak

"University free is good idea. Many student not have money. Free university help them. But some people say no, fees is good for university. I think both is ok. Government should to help student. This my opinion about this topic is important for everyone country."

দুর্বল: অনেক ব্যাকরণ ভুল, খুব কম শব্দ, উদাহরণ নেই, দুর্বল সংগঠন।
