Personal Introduction Not Scored

Read the prompt, then record your introduction.

"Please introduce yourself. In your introduction you may wish to include information about your interests, your plans for study, and why you are taking this test."

1 · Read Aloud

Prepare, then read the text aloud clearly and naturally.

"Cox's Bazar in south-eastern Bangladesh has one of the longest natural sandy beaches in the world, stretching for more than one hundred kilometres along the Bay of Bengal. Each year it attracts millions of visitors, and local authorities are working to balance the growth of tourism with the need to protect the coastline and its fragile ecosystems."

Trap: the scoring engine checks every word — skipping or mispronouncing one costs both Reading and Speaking marks.

2 · Repeat Sentence

Listen once, then immediately repeat the sentence exactly.

Show the sentence (after you try)

"Please read the instructions carefully before you begin answering the questions."

3 · Describe Image

Prepare, then describe the chart in your own words.

Electricity Generation in Bangladesh by Source (%) 0% 25% 50% 75% 100% 2005 2010 2015 2020 2025 Natural gas Oil & coal Renewables
0:25

Trap: summarise the big shift first ("gas remains the largest source but its share fell sharply, while oil, coal and renewables grew"), then add two key figures.

4 · Retell Lecture

Listen to the lecture (taking notes if you like), then retell its key points.

"In this lecture, I want to explain the greenhouse effect and how human activity is strengthening it. Sunlight passes through the atmosphere and warms the Earth's surface, which then gives off heat in the form of infrared radiation. Certain gases in the atmosphere, mainly water vapour, carbon dioxide and methane, absorb some of this infrared radiation and send it back towards the surface, keeping the planet warmer than it would otherwise be. This natural greenhouse effect is essential for life; without it, the Earth's average temperature would be around minus eighteen degrees Celsius. However, burning fossil fuels and clearing forests have raised carbon dioxide levels by about fifty per cent since the Industrial Revolution, trapping extra heat. The result is global warming, which is already causing more intense heatwaves, rising sea levels and changes in rainfall patterns around the world."

5 · Answer Short Question

Listen to the question, then answer with a single word or short phrase.

Show expected answer (after you try)

"A conductor." — one word is enough.

6 · Summarize Group Discussion

Listen to the discussion, then give a spoken summary covering both viewpoints.

Speaker A: "I believe companies should allow employees to choose their own working hours, because people are more productive when they work at the times that suit them."

Speaker B: "Flexibility is valuable, but teams still need time together for meetings and quick decisions, and customers expect people to be available during business hours."

Speaker A: "True, so perhaps companies could set a few core hours each day when everyone is available, and let people choose the rest."

Speaker B: "That seems a sensible compromise, as long as managers judge people by their results rather than by how many hours they appear to be online."

Moderator: "So one speaker argues for flexible hours to boost productivity, while the other stresses coordination and availability, and both support core hours combined with judging people by results."

Trap: mention at least two different viewpoints — not just one speaker's opinion.

7 · Respond to a Situation

Prepare, then speak an appropriate response to the situation.

"A new student from another country has just joined your class and seems lost on the first day. Approach them, introduce yourself and offer help."
0:20

Trap: sound friendly and natural: greet them, introduce yourself, ask a simple question and make one concrete offer (showing them the library, having lunch together).

8 · Summarize Written Text

Read the passage, then write a one-sentence summary (5-75 words) in 10 minutes.

"Many countries are experimenting with a universal basic income, a regular cash payment given to every adult regardless of their employment or wealth. Supporters argue that it would provide a safety net in an era when automation may replace many jobs, reduce the bureaucracy involved in assessing who qualifies for welfare, and give people the freedom to retrain, care for family members or start businesses. Pilot programmes in countries such as Finland and Kenya have reported improvements in recipients' well-being and, in some cases, small increases in employment and entrepreneurship. Critics, however, point out that paying every adult a meaningful amount would be extremely expensive and could require large tax increases, and some worry that it might reduce the incentive to work. Most economists agree that more long-term evidence is needed before the idea could be adopted nationally."

Universal basic income could provide a simple safety net against automation and has improved well-being in pilot programmes, but its high cost and possible effects on work incentives mean more long-term evidence is needed.

9 · Write Essay

Write a 200-300 word argumentative essay in 20 minutes.

"Some people think that studying abroad is the best way to prepare for a successful career, while others believe it is possible to gain the same benefits by studying in one's own country. Discuss both views and give your own opinion."

Strong

"Every year, thousands of students from Bangladesh and other countries leave home to pursue degrees overseas, often at considerable expense. While studying abroad can offer valuable advantages, I believe that its benefits can increasingly be achieved at home, and that the decision should depend on each student's goals and circumstances.

Those who favour studying abroad argue that it provides access to world-ranked universities, advanced research facilities and internationally recognised qualifications. Living in another culture also develops independence, adaptability and language skills, qualities that many global employers value highly. Moreover, international students build networks of classmates and professors that can open doors to opportunities in many countries.

On the other hand, the cost of overseas study, including tuition, accommodation and living expenses, places a heavy burden on many families. Universities at home are improving, and many now offer partnerships with foreign institutions, exchange semesters and online courses from leading universities. Students who remain in their own country can also build professional networks in the local job market, which may be more relevant if they plan to work there.

In my opinion, studying abroad is a valuable option rather than the only route to success. Students should consider their career plans and finances carefully, because commitment, practical experience and continuous learning matter far more than where a degree was earned."

শক্তিশালী: বাংলাদেশি প্রেক্ষাপট, উভয় পক্ষের বিস্তারিত যুক্তি, এবং পরিস্থিতিনির্ভর পরিপক্ব মত।

Mid

"Many students want to study abroad because they think it is good for their career. Studying abroad gives good universities, new culture and international experience. But it is very expensive and not all families can pay. Students can also study in their own country and get good education and jobs there. I think studying abroad is good but it is not necessary for everyone to be successful."

মধ্যম: দুই দিক ও মত আছে, কিন্তু উদাহরণ ও বিশ্লেষণ কম।

Weak

"Study abroad is good for career. But money is problem. In own country also good study. I think abroad is better but expensive."
