Why Tenses Decide Accuracy (কেন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ)

Tense errors are one of the most visible things an examiner sees, and every IELTS module uses tenses differently: past simple for finished Task 1 data, present simple for facts and general Task 2 truths, present perfect for recent change, and narrative tenses for Speaking Part 2 stories. A wide, accurate tense range is core to Band 7 "Grammatical Range & Accuracy".

কালের ভুল পরীক্ষকের চোখে সবচেয়ে স্পষ্ট, আর প্রতিটি IELTS মডিউলে কাল আলাদাভাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়: শেষ হওয়া Task 1 উপাত্তে past simple, সাধারণ সত্যে present simple, সাম্প্রতিক পরিবর্তনে present perfect, Speaking Part 2 গল্পে narrative tense।

Two ideas run every tense: time (past / present / future) and aspect (simple = a whole event; continuous = in progress; perfect = looking back from a later point). Choose the time, then the aspect.

প্রতিটি কালে দুটি বিষয়: সময় ও aspect (simple = সম্পূর্ণ ঘটনা; continuous = চলমান; perfect = পরের বিন্দু থেকে পিছনে তাকানো)।

The Tense System (কালের কাঠামো)

Aspect is easiest to see on a timeline: where the action sits relative to "now" or to another point. Aspect টাইমলাইনে বোঝা সহজ: ক্রিয়াটি "এখন" বা অন্য বিন্দুর সাপেক্ষে কোথায়।

NOW PAST FUTURE → SIMPLE a complete event "it rose in 1990" CONTINUOUS in progress / temporary "prices are rising" PERFECT "has risen" — past→now, result matters
Aspect = the shape of the action; time = where it sits on the line.Aspect = ক্রিয়ার আকৃতি; time = লাইনে অবস্থান।

Present perfectpast action, present result; recent change; "so far"The government has introduced new policies. · I have lived here for ten years.
Present perfect continuousan action continuing up to now (duration)Scientists have been studying the genome for decades.

Stative verbs are NOT used in the continuous: know believe understand want need contain belong seem prefer. Say "I understand", not "I am understanding".

Stative verb continuous-এ হয় না: "I understand" ঠিক, "I am understanding" ভুল।

Past & Narrative Tenses (অতীত ও বর্ণনামূলক)

Task 1 with a date and Speaking Part 2 stories both need the past. To narrate well, combine three tenses. তারিখযুক্ত Task 1 ও Speaking Part 2 গল্পে অতীত লাগে। ভালো বর্ণনায় তিনটি কাল মেশান।

TenseUse it forExample
Past simplea finished action / the main eventsThe airport opened in 1998. · Last year I visited Cox's Bazar.

Band 6-এর সবচেয়ে সাধারণ ভুল। নিয়ম: শেষ হওয়া সময়ে past simple; সময় অসমাপ্ত/অনুল্লেখিত ও ফল এখন থাকলে present perfect।
