Keep answers to 2–3 sentences — give a reason or an example. প্রতিটি উত্তর ২–৩ বাক্য।

Topic: Your home

1. Do you live in a house or a flat?

2. What is your favourite room in your home?

3. Is there anything you would like to change about your home?

4. Do you plan to live there for a long time?

✅ Sample answers at 3 levels (Band 9 / 7 / 5–6) + Bangla explanations

Band 9

1. I live in a fourth-floor flat in a fairly new apartment block, together with my parents and my younger sister.

2. Probably the balcony, if that counts as a room. It catches the breeze in the evenings and overlooks a small park, so it’s the perfect spot to unwind with a cup of tea.

3. I’d love a bit more space, to be honest. My sister and I share a bedroom, which can be tricky when one of us wants to study and the other wants to chat.

4. Probably not. I’m hoping to move out once I start working, although I suspect I’ll always think of it as home.

কেন ব্যান্ড ৯: সমৃদ্ধ শব্দ (catches the breeze, overlooks, unwind, tricky), শর্ত ও অনুমান (if that counts, I suspect) ও নির্ভুল ব্যাকরণ।

3. I would like more space. I share a bedroom with my sister, and it is difficult when one of us wants to study and the other wants to talk.

4. Probably not. I want to move out when I start working, but I think I will always see it as my home.

2. Do you know your neighbours well?

3. What facilities are there near your home?

4. How could your neighbourhood be improved?

✅ Sample answers at 3 levels (Band 9 / 7 / 5–6) + Bangla explanations

Band 9

1. It’s a busy, fairly residential area. During the day it’s full of rickshaws and street vendors, but it quietens down considerably in the evenings.

2. Some of them, yes. We’ve lived there for about eight years, so we’re on friendly terms with the families on our floor, and we often exchange food during festivals.

3. We’re quite well served. There’s a market just around the corner, a couple of schools, a small clinic and a mosque, so most of our daily needs are within walking distance.

4. The traffic and the waterlogging are the biggest headaches. Better drainage would make a huge difference during the monsoon, when some streets turn into rivers.

কেন ব্যান্ড ৯: বাগধারা (on friendly terms, well served, within walking distance, headaches), সমৃদ্ধ শব্দ (residential, waterlogging, drainage)।

Band 7

Topic: Noise

1. Is your home a quiet place?

2. What kinds of noise annoy you?

3. Do you like listening to music while you study?

4. Were you a noisy child?

✅ Sample answers at 3 levels (Band 9 / 7 / 5–6) + Bangla explanations

Band 9

1. Not especially. Living near a main road means there’s a constant background hum of horns and engines, although I’ve more or less got used to it.

2. Construction noise drives me up the wall, particularly drilling early in the morning. Loud music from a neighbour late at night is pretty irritating too.

3. Only instrumental music. Anything with lyrics distracts me, because I find myself listening to the words instead of concentrating on my work.

4. Apparently so! My parents still joke that I never stopped talking, singing or banging on things with spoons.

কেন ব্যান্ড ৯: বাগধারা (background hum, got used to, drives me up the wall, Apparently so), সমৃদ্ধ শব্দ (instrumental, irritating)।

Band 7

1. Not really. I live near a main road, so there is always noise from horns and engines, but I am used to it now.

2. Construction noise annoys me a lot, especially drilling early in the morning. Loud music from neighbours late at night is also annoying.

3. Only music without words. Songs with lyrics distract me, because I listen to the words instead of my work.

4. Yes, I think so. My parents still say that I talked and sang all the time and made noise with spoons.

Band 9  ~2 minutes

The place I’d like to talk about is the small balcony attached to our living room. It’s on the fourth floor of our building, facing east, so it gets the morning sun but stays pleasantly cool in the evenings.

It’s not very big — perhaps two metres by three — but my mother has turned it into a little garden. There are pots of jasmine, mint and a couple of chilli plants along the railing, a small cane chair, and a low stool that I use as a table. From there, you can look down onto a small park with a pond, which is quite rare in our part of the city.

Most evenings, once I’ve finished studying, I take a cup of tea out there and just sit for twenty minutes or so. Sometimes I read, sometimes I listen to a podcast, and occasionally I just watch the children playing cricket in the park below. On weekends I also help my mother water the plants.

The reason I find it so relaxing is that it feels like a small escape from the rush of city life. Inside the flat there’s always something going on — the television, my sister on the phone, my parents discussing something — but out on the balcony it’s calm, and the smell of the jasmine is incredibly soothing. It also gives me a bit of green space, which I think everyone needs.

For me, it’s like pressing a reset button at the end of a long day. Whenever I feel stressed before an exam, that’s exactly where you’ll find me.

কেন ব্যান্ড ৯: চারটি অংশ পূর্ণ, দৃশ্যমান বর্ণনা (আকার, গাছ, দৃশ্য), “কেন” অংশ বিস্তারিত, বাগধারা (an escape from the rush, pressing a reset button, that’s exactly where you’ll find me), সমৃদ্ধ শব্দ (soothing, pleasantly)।

Band 7  ~1.5–2 minutes

The place I want to talk about is the small balcony next to our living room. It is on the fourth floor and faces east, so it gets the morning sun but is cool in the evenings.

It is not very big, but my mother has made it into a small garden. There are pots of jasmine, mint and chilli plants, a small cane chair and a stool that I use as a table. From there you can see a small park with a pond.

Most evenings, after I finish studying, I take a cup of tea there and sit for about twenty minutes. Sometimes I read or listen to a podcast, and sometimes I just watch children playing cricket in the park. At weekends I help my mother water the plants.

I find it relaxing because it is a break from busy city life. Inside the flat it is always noisy, with the TV and my family talking, but on the balcony it is calm, and the smell of jasmine is very nice. It also gives me some green space.

For me, it is the best way to relax after a long day. When I feel stressed before an exam, I always go there.

Answers here should be longer and more developed — opinion, reason, and often the other side too. উত্তর আরও দীর্ঘ।

1. Why do many young people find it hard to buy a home?

2. Is it better to rent or to buy a home?

3. What makes a neighbourhood a good place to live?

4. Do people know their neighbours less than they used to?

5. How will homes change in the future?

✅ Sample answers at 3 levels (Band 9 / 7 / 5–6) + Bangla explanations

Band 9

1. Mainly because property prices have risen far faster than salaries, especially in big cities like Dhaka. A young graduate might need to save for decades just to afford a deposit, and borrowing is expensive, so for many people owning a home feels out of reach.

2. It depends on your situation. Buying gives you long-term security and an asset, but it ties you down and involves a huge commitment. Renting, on the other hand, offers flexibility, which suits young people who may need to move for work. Personally, I’d rent first and buy later.

3. For me, safety comes first, followed by convenient access to schools, shops and transport. But what really makes an area pleasant is a sense of community — green spaces where people meet, and neighbours who look out for one another.

4. I think so, particularly in cities. People move more often, work long hours and spend their free time online, so there are fewer chances to get to know the people next door. In villages, though, close relationships between neighbours are still very much alive.

5. I expect homes to become smaller but smarter. As cities grow, more people will live in high-rise flats, and technology will control things like lighting and security. Hopefully, homes will also be designed to use less energy, with solar panels becoming standard.

কেন ব্যান্ড ৯: মত + কারণ + বিপরীত দিক (on the other hand, though), সমৃদ্ধ শব্দ (out of reach, asset, ties you down, look out for, high-rise) ও নির্ভুল জটিল বাক্য।

Band 7

1. Mainly because house prices have increased much faster than salaries, especially in big cities. Young people need many years to save money for a deposit, and loans are expensive, so buying a home is very difficult.

2. It depends on the situation. Buying gives security and you own something valuable, but it is a big commitment. Renting is more flexible, which is good for young people who may need to move for work. I would rent first and buy later.

3. Safety is the most important thing, and then easy access to schools, shops and transport. But a good neighbourhood also has a sense of community, with parks where people can meet and neighbours who help each other.

4. Yes, I think so, especially in cities. People move more often, work long hours and use the internet in their free time, so they do not meet their neighbours. But in villages, people still know their neighbours well.

5. I think homes will be smaller but smarter. As cities grow, more people will live in tall buildings, and technology will control lights and security. I hope homes will also use less energy, for example with solar panels.

কেন ব্যান্ড ৭: মত ও কারণ আছে। তবে ভাষা সরল ও বিশ্লেষণ কম গভীর।

Band 5–6

1. Because house price increase faster than salary, specially in big city. Young people need many year for save deposit and loan is expensive, so buy home is very difficult.

2. It depend. Buying give security and you own something, but it is big commitment. Renting is more flexible and good for young people who need to move for job. I will rent first and buy after.

4. Yes i think specially in city. People move often, work long hour and use internet in free time so they not meet neighbour. But in village people still know neighbour well.
