1. I do, although I’m more enthusiastic than talented! I play badminton with friends most weekends, mainly for the fun of it rather than to win.

2. Cricket is by far the biggest — when the national team plays, the whole country practically comes to a standstill. Football is hugely popular too, especially during the World Cup.

3. Yes, I was on the school football team for a couple of years. I wasn’t the star player by any means, but I loved the team spirit and the matches against other schools.

4. Playing, definitely. Watching a big match is exciting, but nothing beats the feeling of actually being out there and getting your heart pumping.

1. What do you do to stay healthy?

2. Have you ever been to a gym?

3. Do you think people in your country are getting healthier?

4. Is it easy to find time for exercise?

✅ Sample answers at 3 levels (Band 9 / 7 / 5–6) + Bangla explanations

2. I joined one last year, but I have to admit I only went regularly for the first couple of months. These days I find working out at home more realistic.

3. In some ways yes, in others no. People are far more aware of health than before, and you see joggers in the parks every morning, but at the same time fast food and long hours at desks are taking their toll.

4. Not really, particularly during exams. The trick, I’ve found, is to build it into my routine — even a brisk fifteen-minute walk is far better than nothing.

4. Is your city a good place for walking?

✅ Sample answers at 3 levels (Band 9 / 7 / 5–6) + Bangla explanations

Band 9

1. A fair amount, yes. I walk to the bus stop and around campus every day, so I probably clock up five or six thousand steps without really trying.

2. My favourite spot is the lakeside path near Dhanmondi. It’s shaded by trees and there’s usually a nice breeze off the water, so it’s lovely early in the morning.

3. Much more, actually. As kids we walked to school and spent hours roaming around the neighbourhood with friends, whereas now I tend to rely on transport.

4. Not particularly, I’m afraid. Pavements are often broken or blocked by stalls, and the traffic makes crossing roads quite stressful. The parks are the exception, though.

Band 9  ~2 minutes

An activity I really enjoy is badminton. It’s a fast racket sport in which you hit a feathered shuttlecock over a high net, and although it looks gentle on television, a proper game is surprisingly exhausting.

I got into it about three years ago, when a friend dragged me along to a court near my home, and I’ve been hooked ever since. These days we play every Friday and Saturday evening at a small indoor court, and in winter we sometimes play outdoors in the street, which is a real tradition in Bangladesh, with a net strung between two poles and lights hung above.

I usually play with the same group of four or five friends from university. We’re all roughly the same standard, so the matches are competitive but never too serious, and there’s a lot of friendly banter on the court.

There are a few reasons I enjoy it so much. Physically, it’s a fantastic workout — after an hour, I’m drenched in sweat, and it has done wonders for my stamina and reflexes. Mentally, it’s a complete break from studying, because you simply can’t think about anything else while you’re chasing the shuttle. But above all, it’s the social side I love: it’s a chance to spend time with friends without staring at our phones.

So, for me, badminton isn’t just a sport — it’s become the highlight of my week, and I can’t imagine giving it up.

Band 7  ~1.5–2 minutes

An activity I really enjoy is badminton. It is a racket sport where you hit a shuttlecock over a high net, and although it looks easy on TV, a real game is very tiring.

I started playing about three years ago, when a friend took me to a court near my home, and since then I have loved it. Now we play every Friday and Saturday evening at a small indoor court, and in winter we sometimes play outside in the street, which is very common in Bangladesh.

I usually play with four or five friends from university. We are all at a similar level, so the matches are competitive but fun, and we joke a lot.

I enjoy it for several reasons. First, it is great exercise — after an hour I am very sweaty, and it has improved my fitness. Second, it helps me forget about studying, because I have to concentrate on the game. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my friends without looking at our phones.

So badminton is not just a sport for me — it is the best part of my week.

I enjoy because first it is good exercise, after one hour i am very sweat. Second i forget about study because i must concentrate the game. Most important i enjoy time with friend without phone.

Answers here should be longer and more developed — opinion, reason, and often the other side too. উত্তর আরও দীর্ঘ।

1. Why do fewer young people do sport these days?

2. Should schools spend more time on physical education?

3. What can governments do to make people healthier?

4. Why are major sporting events, like the Olympics, so popular?

5. Is professional sport too focused on money?

✅ Sample answers at 3 levels (Band 9 / 7 / 5–6) + Bangla explanations

Band 9

1. I think screens are the main culprit. Young people now spend much of their free time on phones and computers, which is far more passive than playing outside. On top of that, academic pressure is intense, and in crowded cities there are simply fewer safe places to play.

2. Yes, I believe they should. Regular exercise improves concentration and mental health as well as physical fitness, so it actually supports academic learning rather than competing with it. Schools could also introduce a wider range of activities, so that children who dislike team sports still find something they enjoy.

3. Quite a lot, actually. They can invest in parks, cycle lanes and public sports facilities, and run awareness campaigns about diet. Taxing sugary drinks is another option that has worked in some countries. However, people also have to take some personal responsibility.

4. Partly because they bring people together around a shared experience — for a few weeks, millions of strangers are cheering for the same team. They also showcase extraordinary human achievement, and the drama of the competition makes for compelling viewing.

5. To a large extent, I’d say. Huge sums from broadcasting and sponsorship have made top sport a business, and ticket prices have soared. On the other hand, that money also funds training and facilities, and it allows talented athletes from poor backgrounds to make a living from their sport.

কেন ব্যান্ড ৯: মত + কারণ + বিপরীত দিক (However, On the other hand), সমৃদ্ধ শব্দ (culprit, passive, showcase, compelling, soared, make a living)।

Band 7

1. I think phones and computers are the main reason. Young people spend a lot of their free time on screens instead of playing outside. Also, there is a lot of pressure to study, and in big cities there are not many safe places to play.

2. Yes, I think so. Exercise improves concentration and mental health as well as fitness, so it helps students learn better. Schools could also offer different activities, so children who do not like team sports can find something they enjoy.

3. They can do a lot. They can build parks, cycle lanes and sports centres, and run campaigns about healthy food. A tax on sugary drinks could also help. But people also need to take responsibility for their own health.

4. Because they bring people together. For a few weeks, millions of people support the same team. They also show amazing achievements, and the competition is very exciting to watch.

5. Yes, mostly. A lot of money comes from TV and sponsors, so top sport is now a business, and tickets are very expensive. But this money also pays for training and facilities and helps poor athletes earn a living.

কেন ব্যান্ড ৭: মত ও কারণ আছে। তবে ভাষা সরল ও বিশ্লেষণ কম গভীর।

Band 5–6

1. I think phone and computer is main reason. Young people spend free time on screen and not play outside. Also study pressure is high and in big city there is not many safe place for play.

2. Yes i think. Exercise improve concentration and mental health and fitness, so it help student learn better. School can also give different activity for children who don’t like team sport.

3. They can do a lot. They can make park, cycle lane and sport centre, and make campaign about healthy food. Tax on sugary drink can also help. But people also must take responsibility.

4. Because it bring people together. For some week million people support same team. Also it show amazing achievement and competition is very exciting.

5. Yes mostly. Lot of money come from TV and sponsor, so top sport is business now and ticket is very expensive. But this money also pay for training and help poor athlete.
