IELTS Academic Writing — Practice Test 11
Task 1: two pie charts · Task 2: an advantages / disadvantages essay. Write both answers, get an indicative band estimate, then compare with three model answers (Band 9, 7 and 5–6) — each explained in Bangla — and grade yourself on the four official criteria. টাস্ক ১: দুটি পাই চার্ট · টাস্ক ২: সুবিধা-অসুবিধা রচনা।
How this works — কীভাবে দেবে
- You have 60 minutes: about 20 min on Task 1 (min. 150 words) and 40 min on Task 2 (min. 250 words). Task 2 counts double. টাস্ক ১-এ ~২০ মিনিট, টাস্ক ২-এ ~৪০ মিনিট।
- Compare the two pies: say which sources grew, shrank or stayed similar — not just the numbers in each pie separately. দুটি পাই তুলনা করো — কোনটি বেড়েছে, কমেছে।
- The band estimate is a rough computer guide — use the model answers and checklist as your main guide. স্কোর আনুমানিক; মডেল উত্তর ও চেকলিস্টই মূল ভরসা।
- Hover the red-dashed words for meaning. Your writing is saved in this browser. লাল-ড্যাশ শব্দে মাউস রাখো; লেখা সেভ থাকে।

Band 9 163 words
The pie charts illustrate the proportion of electricity produced from five different sources in one country in 2000 and 2025.
Overall, the country’s electricity supply became far less dependent on coal and oil over the period. Natural gas replaced coal as the leading source, while renewable energy experienced the most dramatic growth.
In 2000, coal dominated electricity production, accounting for almost half (45%) of the total, with oil contributing a further quarter. By 2025, however, the share generated from coal had more than halved to 20%, and oil had declined to 15%, meaning that these two fossil fuels together supplied barely a third of the country’s power.
Over the same period, the contribution of natural gas rose from a fifth to 30%, making it the largest single source in 2025. Nuclear power also increased, from 6% to 10%. The most striking change, though, was in renewables, whose share grew more than six-fold, from a mere 4% to a quarter of all electricity generated.
Band 7 150 words
The pie charts show the different sources of electricity in one country in 2000 and 2025.
Overall, the use of coal and oil decreased a lot, while natural gas, nuclear power and renewables all increased. In 2025, natural gas became the biggest source of electricity.
In 2000, coal was the main source, with 45% of all electricity. Oil was second with 25%. However, by 2025 coal fell to only 20% and oil fell to 15%. This shows that the country used much less coal and oil than before, and together they made only 35% of the total in 2025.
On the other hand, natural gas increased from 20% to 30%, so it became the largest source. Nuclear power also increased from 6% to 10%. The biggest change was renewables, which grew from only 4% in 2000 to 25% in 2025, which means they made up a quarter of the electricity.
Band 5–6 115 words
The pie chart show the source of electricity in one country in 2000 and 2025.
Overall the coal and oil is decrease and the gas, nuclear and renewable is increase. In 2025 the gas is the biggest.
In 2000 coal is the most, it is 45%. Oil is 25%. But in 2025 the coal is only 20% and oil is 15%. So the country use less coal and oil now than before.
Gas is increase from 20% to 30% and it become the biggest. Nuclear is increase from 6% to 10%. The renewable is increase very much, from 4% to 25%. So the renewable is a big change and it is good for the environment.

Band 9 271 words
In recent years, a growing number of employees have begun working from home rather than commuting to an office every day. This shift brings clear benefits for both workers and employers, but it also creates some significant challenges.
One major advantage is the time and money saved on travel. In large cities, where commuting can take two hours a day, working from home allows employees to spend that time with their families, exercising or simply resting, which can improve their well-being. Employers may also benefit, since they can reduce the cost of renting large offices. Furthermore, remote work gives companies access to talented people who live far away, and allows parents and disabled people, who might struggle with a daily commute, to remain in employment.
On the downside, working from home can be isolating. Without casual conversations with colleagues, some employees feel lonely and less connected to their organisation, and younger staff in particular may miss the chance to learn by watching more experienced workers. A further drawback is that the boundary between work and private life can become blurred. When the office is also the living room, many people find it difficult to stop working in the evening, which can lead to stress and exhaustion. In addition, not everyone has a quiet space or a reliable internet connection at home.
In conclusion, working from home offers valuable savings in time and money and makes employment more accessible, but it can also lead to loneliness and an unhealthy balance between work and rest. A combination of home and office working may allow people to enjoy the benefits while limiting the drawbacks.
Band 7 255 words
Nowadays, many people work from home instead of going to an office every day. This trend has both advantages and disadvantages, which I will discuss in this essay.
The first advantage is that people save time and money because they do not need to travel. In big cities like Dhaka, people sometimes spend two or three hours in traffic every day. If they work from home, they can use this time to rest or to be with their family. Also, companies can save money because they do not need a big office. Another advantage is that people who live far away or who have small children can still work. This means companies can choose the best workers from anywhere in the country.
However, there are also some disadvantages. Firstly, working from home can make people feel lonely, because they do not meet their colleagues every day. Young workers also cannot learn easily from older workers. Secondly, it is difficult to separate work and home life. Many people continue working late at night because their computer is always near them, and this can cause stress. In addition, some people do not have a quiet room or a good internet connection at home, so it is hard for them to work.
In conclusion, working from home helps people to save time and money, and it gives more people the chance to work. However, it can also cause loneliness and stress. I think working some days at home and some days in the office is the best solution.
Band 5–6 218 words
Now a days many people work from the home and not go to the office. This have advantage and disadvantage.
First advantage is people save time and money because they not need to travel. In Dhaka the traffic is very bad and people lost two or three hour every day. If they work in home they can rest or stay with family. Also the company save money because they not need big office. And the people who live far can also do the job, and the mother with small child can work from home too. So company can find good worker from any place.
But there is some disadvantage also. First, people feel alone in home because they not meet the colleague. The young worker can not learn from senior worker. Second, it is hard to separate the work and the home. Many people work in the night because the computer is near, so they get stress. Also some people do not have quiet room or good internet in home, so they can not work properly and the boss is not happy.
In conclusion work from home is good because it save time and money. But it also make lonely and stress. I think some day in home and some day in office is the best for everybody.
