1 · Read Aloud

Prepare, then read the text aloud clearly and naturally.

"Coffee was first cultivated in the highlands of Ethiopia and Yemen, where it was valued as a drink that helped people stay awake during long evening prayers. By the seventeenth century, coffee houses had spread across the Middle East and Europe, becoming lively places where merchants, writers and scientists met to exchange news and ideas."

Trap: the scoring engine checks every word — skipping or mispronouncing one costs both Reading and Speaking marks.

2 · Repeat Sentence

Listen once, then immediately repeat the sentence exactly.

Show the sentence (after you try)

"All visitors are required to sign in at the reception desk on arrival."

3 · Describe Image

Prepare, then describe the chart in your own words.

Students Choosing Each Study Destination (thousands) 0 5 10 15 20 12 18 UK 9 11 USA 6 9 Canada 7 8 Australia 5 7 Malaysia 2019 2024

Trap: describe the overall change first ("every destination grew, and the UK grew the most"), then pick out one or two comparisons — don't list all ten bars.

4 · Retell Lecture

Listen to the lecture (taking notes if you like), then retell its key points.

"Today I'd like to explain how the human eye allows us to see colour. Light enters the eye through the cornea and lens, which focus it onto the retina, a thin layer of light-sensitive cells at the back of the eye. The retina contains two main types of cells: rods, which work well in dim light but cannot detect colour, and cones, which need brighter light and are responsible for colour vision. Most people have three kinds of cones, each most sensitive to red, green or blue light, and the brain compares their signals to produce every colour we experience. If one type of cone is missing or works differently, a person may have difficulty distinguishing certain colours, a condition commonly called colour blindness. It affects around one in twelve men but far fewer women, because the genes for red and green cones are carried on the X chromosome."

5 · Answer Short Question

Listen to the question, then answer with a single word or short phrase.

Show expected answer (after you try)

"An architect." — one word is enough.

6 · Summarize Group Discussion

Listen to the discussion, then give a spoken summary covering both viewpoints.

Speaker A: "I think every university course should include a compulsory work placement, because employers keep saying graduates lack practical experience."

Speaker B: "Placements are valuable, but finding enough good ones for every student would be very difficult, especially in smaller towns or in subjects like history."

Speaker A: "That's a fair concern, but universities could partner with local organisations, charities and even online companies to create more opportunities."

Speaker B: "Perhaps, but if placements are unpaid, students from poorer families may not be able to afford them, which would make inequality worse."

Moderator: "So one speaker wants compulsory placements to improve employability, while the other worries about availability and fairness for students who cannot work unpaid."

Trap: mention at least two different viewpoints — not just one speaker's opinion.

7 · Respond to a Situation

Prepare, then speak an appropriate response to the situation.

"You ordered a laptop online, but it arrived with a cracked screen. Call the customer service team, describe the problem and ask for a solution."
0:20

Trap: give the key facts first (order, problem) and then ask clearly for a replacement or refund — sound firm but polite.

8 · Summarize Written Text

Read the passage, then write a one-sentence summary (5-75 words) in 10 minutes.

"Urban farming, which includes rooftop gardens, community allotments and indoor vertical farms, has expanded rapidly in many cities over the past two decades. Its supporters argue that growing food close to where people live reduces transport costs and emissions, provides fresher produce, and gives city residents, particularly children, a better understanding of where food comes from. Community gardens are also credited with strengthening social ties, improving mental health and making use of vacant land that would otherwise attract litter. Nevertheless, urban farming faces significant limitations. Land in cities is expensive, soil may be contaminated by previous industrial use, and indoor vertical farms consume large amounts of electricity for lighting and climate control. As a result, most researchers believe urban farming can complement but not replace conventional agriculture as a source of food for growing urban populations."

Urban farming offers fresher local food, lower transport emissions and social and health benefits, but because of expensive land, contaminated soil and high energy use it can only complement, not replace, conventional agriculture.

9 · Write Essay

Write a 200-300 word argumentative essay in 20 minutes.

"Some people think that governments should spend more money on public libraries, while others believe libraries are no longer necessary in the internet age. Discuss both views and give your own opinion."
0 words (target: 200-300)
📖 Compare with 3 sample responses (strong / mid / weak)
Strong

"With so much information now available online, some argue that public libraries have become outdated. Although the internet has transformed how people find information, I believe libraries remain an essential public service and deserve continued investment.

Those who question library funding make a reasonable point. Search engines, e-books and online databases allow people to access material instantly from home, and many young people rarely visit a library at all. In addition, governments face competing demands, such as healthcare and transport, so spending must be justified by clear public benefit.

Nevertheless, libraries provide far more than books. For millions of people without reliable internet or a quiet place to study, they offer free computers, Wi-Fi and study space. Librarians also help users judge whether online information is trustworthy, a skill that is increasingly important in an age of misinformation. Furthermore, libraries host reading programmes for children, language classes for migrants and job-search support for the unemployed, which strengthens whole communities.

In my view, the question is not whether libraries are needed but how they should evolve. Rather than cutting budgets, governments should invest in modernising libraries as community learning hubs, ensuring that the benefits of the digital age are shared by everyone."

শক্তিশালী: বিপক্ষের যুক্তি স্বীকার, তারপর শক্তিশালী উদাহরণসহ পক্ষের যুক্তি, ও আধুনিকায়নের প্রস্তাব।

Mid

"Today many people use internet to find information, so some people think libraries are not needed. They say e-books are cheap and easy to get. However, libraries are still useful because some people do not have computer or internet at home. Students also need a quiet place for studying. I think government should still spend money for libraries, but they should make them more modern with computers."

মধ্যম: দুই দিক আছে, তবে বিস্তার কম এবং কিছু ব্যাকরণ ভুল (use internet, spend money for)।

Weak

"Library is old now because internet have everything. But some people need library for read. Government can give money maybe. I think library is good."

দুর্বল: যুক্তি অস্পষ্ট, ব্যাকরণ ভুল, খুব ছোট।
