Personal Introduction Not Scored

Read the prompt, then record your introduction.

"Please introduce yourself. In your introduction you may wish to include information about your interests, your plans for study, and why you are taking this test."

1 · Read Aloud

Prepare, then read the text aloud clearly and naturally.

"Rickshaws remain one of the most familiar sights in Dhaka, where hundreds of thousands of them carry passengers along narrow streets that buses cannot reach. Their colourful decorations, painted by skilled local artists, have become a recognised form of folk art, and in 2023 rickshaw painting was added to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage."

Trap: the scoring engine checks every word — skipping or mispronouncing one costs both Reading and Speaking marks.

2 · Repeat Sentence

Listen once, then immediately repeat the sentence exactly.

Show the sentence (after you try)

"Students who need extra time in examinations should contact the disability office."

3 · Describe Image

Prepare, then describe the chart in your own words.

Internet Users in Bangladesh (millions) 0 50 100 150 200 2010 2013 2016 2019 2022 2025 Mobile Broadband
0:25

Trap: make the key contrast clear — mobile internet grew enormously, while fixed broadband stayed far lower — before mentioning one or two figures.

4 · Retell Lecture

Listen to the lecture (taking notes if you like), then retell its key points.

"In today's lecture we'll look at the role of the Bay of Bengal in the South Asian monsoon. During the summer, the land of the Indian subcontinent heats up much faster than the surrounding ocean, creating an area of low pressure over the land. Moist air from the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal flows towards this low pressure, and as it rises over the land and the Himalayas, it cools and releases heavy rain. Around eighty per cent of Bangladesh's annual rainfall arrives during this monsoon season, between June and September. This rain is essential for agriculture, filling rivers and providing water for rice, the country's main crop, but it also brings floods that can damage homes and harvests. Scientists are concerned that climate change may make monsoon rainfall more irregular, with longer dry spells interrupted by more intense downpours."

5 · Answer Short Question

Listen to the question, then answer with a single word or short phrase.

Show expected answer (after you try)

"An antonym." — one word is enough.

6 · Summarize Group Discussion

Listen to the discussion, then give a spoken summary covering both viewpoints.

Speaker A: "I think online shopping is better for the environment, because one delivery van can replace dozens of individual car trips to the shops."

Speaker B: "That can be true, but many online orders are delivered quickly in separate small packages, and a lot of items are returned, which doubles the transport."

Speaker A: "Good point, so maybe the benefit depends on choosing slower delivery that lets companies combine orders."

Speaker B: "Exactly, and the packaging matters too, since online orders often use far more cardboard and plastic than shopping in person."

Moderator: "So one speaker sees online shopping as potentially greener through efficient deliveries, while the other highlights fast delivery, returns and packaging as environmental costs."

Trap: mention at least two different viewpoints — not just one speaker's opinion.

7 · Respond to a Situation

Prepare, then speak an appropriate response to the situation.

"Your manager has asked you to work this weekend, but you have already booked a family trip. Speak to your manager, explain the situation and suggest an alternative."
0:20

Trap: be respectful and cooperative: explain the prior commitment briefly, then offer a concrete alternative (working extra hours next week, or finishing a task remotely before you leave).

8 · Summarize Written Text

Read the passage, then write a one-sentence summary (5-75 words) in 10 minutes.

"Artificial light at night, from streetlights, buildings and advertising, has grown rapidly over the past century, and today more than eighty per cent of the world's population lives under skies affected by light pollution. Beyond hiding the stars, this artificial glow can disrupt natural rhythms in both wildlife and humans. Newly hatched sea turtles, for example, use the brightness of the horizon over the ocean to find the sea, but bright coastal lighting can lead them inland, where many die. Migratory birds can become disoriented by illuminated buildings, and in humans, exposure to bright light late at night can suppress the hormone melatonin, which helps regulate sleep. Fortunately, light pollution is easier to reduce than many other forms of pollution: using shielded fittings that direct light downwards, choosing warmer colours and switching off unnecessary lights can greatly reduce its impact."

Light pollution, which affects most of the world's population, disrupts wildlife such as sea turtles and migratory birds and can harm human sleep, but it can be reduced fairly easily through shielded, warmer and fewer lights.

9 · Write Essay

Write a 200-300 word argumentative essay in 20 minutes.

Strong

"What determines success in life has been debated for generations. While personal effort is undeniably important, I believe that circumstances such as family background and luck play a larger role than many people are willing to admit.

Those who emphasise hard work point to countless individuals who have overcome poverty through determination. Entrepreneurs, athletes and scholars from modest backgrounds demonstrate that persistence, discipline and the willingness to learn from failure can lead to remarkable achievements. Believing in the value of effort also motivates people to keep trying when progress is slow.

However, the opportunities available to people are far from equal. Children from wealthier families generally attend better schools, receive private tuition and benefit from professional networks, while those from poorer homes may have to work while studying or leave education early. Furthermore, unpredictable events, such as illness, economic crises or simply meeting the right mentor, can dramatically change a person's path regardless of their effort.

In my view, success is best understood as the product of effort meeting opportunity. Hard work is necessary, but it is rarely sufficient on its own. Therefore, societies that genuinely value effort should also work to reduce inequalities in education and support, so that talent and determination are rewarded wherever they appear."

"Many people say that hard work is the key to success, because if you study and work hard you can achieve your goals. But some people think luck and family are more important, because rich families can give their children good schools and opportunities. I think both are important, but hard work is more important because we cannot control luck. We should always try our best."
